More information suggesting the date(s) of the trip(s) to NYC

In the previous post we suggested that the slides of that post might have been taken on two separate trips.  Some were taken on or after November 16, 1961, since NYC is decorated for Christmas and a marquee is seen advertising the movie Summer and Smoke.  Here are links to a review of this movie and to Netflix streaming video of the movie, which you can watch if you are a subscriber.

However, temperature records for NYC in 1961 show that on the warmest days in November, 1961, the high temperatures were in the high 50s and the low temperatures were in the 40s (see link below).  December was even colder.  It seems unlikely that all family members would be without at least a jacket or sweater in those temperatures.  Therefore it seems more likely that the slides in the previous post were taken on two separate trips, one in November, 1961, after NYC was decorated for Christmas, and a second during a warmer month, before or after November, 1961.

November, 1961, Weather Records

In slide six of the previous post, a marquee can be seen for the movie Susan Slade.  This film was released on November 6, 1961.  Susan Slade is available on DVD from NetFlix, but unavailable for streaming, if for some reason you would want to see it after reading the reviews.  A trailer is available on YouTube.

Trip or Trips to New York City, Unknown Date

Unlike the majority of the Dickey Family Slides, some of them are not stamped with the date.  It appears as if some of the photos were taken in late November or December, 1961, due to the depiction of a marquee for a theatre showing the movie Summer and Smoke.  That movie was released on November 16, 1961.  However, in other pictures family members do not appear to be dressed appropriately for November or December in NYC.  It is possible that the weather was unusually warm, or the pictures may be from more than one trip.

Part 2: Slides Stamped "August 1961"

Here are the remaining slides stamped "August 1961," depicting a trip to the Bronx Zoo and some backyard pictures with neighbors.  It appears as if the backyard pictures may have been slightly exposed to light before they were developed.

There is a very nice group picture at the zoo in this post!
