Halloween, 1962

Here is a single photo from Halloween, 1962.  We found no other slides from Halloween of that year or any others, except for the Halloween 1961 slides posted earlier.  Note that Caryl is wearing Marcie's costume from the year before, but with cat whiskers drawn on her face instead of the mask that Marcie wore the year before.  Those plastic masks with the thin elastic cord usually did not last through one Halloween of trick-or-treat.

This post includes pictures taken in late Summer or Fall of 1961.  The first picture was probably taken before Halloween, and the last picture was probably taken after Halloween.

 Some of the slides that are undated are family Christmas pictures.  SInce there are dated slides from Christmas 1962 that will be posted later, these must be from Christmas, 1961,

More information suggesting the date(s) of the trip(s) to NYC

In the previous post we suggested that the slides of that post might have been taken on two separate trips.  Some were taken on or after November 16, 1961, since NYC is decorated for Christmas and a marquee is seen advertising the movie Summer and Smoke.  Here are links to a review of this movie and to Netflix streaming video of the movie, which you can watch if you are a subscriber.

However, temperature records for NYC in 1961 show that on the warmest days in November, 1961, the high temperatures were in the high 50s and the low temperatures were in the 40s (see link below).  December was even colder.  It seems unlikely that all family members would be without at least a jacket or sweater in those temperatures.  Therefore it seems more likely that the slides in the previous post were taken on two separate trips, one in November, 1961, after NYC was decorated for Christmas, and a second during a warmer month, before or after November, 1961.

In slide six of the previous post, a marquee can be seen for the movie Susan Slade.  This film was released on November 6, 1961.  Susan Slade is available on DVD from NetFlix, but unavailable for streaming, if for some reason you would want to see it after reading the reviews.  A trailer is available on YouTube.
